West Bengal ranks third position accounting 9.80% slum population to total slum population of India as per 2011 Census. So, this paper aims firstly to study the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of slum and non-slum population in West Bengal at district level, 2011, secondly to examine the correlation of slum population with the other selected variables of slums in West Bengal and lastly to examine the relation between the slum literacy rate and slum work participation rate, District-Wise in West Bengal, 2011. The entire study is secondary database. Statistical techniques like Correlation (Karl Pearson's Product Moment Method), Least Square Method for regression line and cartographic techniques are used here to analyze the data. It is revealed from the study that there is weak positive correlation between the level of urbanization and the percentage share of slum population in West Bengal. Except sex ratio and child sex ratio, the percentage of slum population has strong positive correlation with other three variables (slum Scheduled Tribe population, Literacy rate and Work Participation Rate) bearing 0.01 level of significance in West Bengal. On the other hand, there is strong positive correlation between literacy rate and work participation rate in slums of West Bengal, 2011.
