Abstract

India has become the second biggest smart phone market in terms of active unique smart phone users, crossing 220 million users, surpassing the US market according to a report by counterpoint research 2016. The usage of smart mobile phones is integral part of college life and culture. Most of the students whether higher learning students or low-level students are more into using smart phones in their day to day life. The aim of this study was to find out the usage of smart phones among college students. A total of 267 students having smart phones were surveyed regarding the usage of smart phone in socialization, Information accessing, Entertainment and Aid to learning. Data collected after survey were analyzed using SPSS with Chi-square test used to analyze and interpret data. The purpose of the present study to investigate the usage of smart mobile phones by college students considering socialization, Information accessing, Entertainment and Aid to learning variables to measure usage of smart phones by college students. The finding of the study indicates that students use smart mobile phones for social networking, to send email and for online shopping and to check information and announcement of information sent by college and for learning purposes.
