Abstract

Aspiration or educational aspiration of the students is a term used frequently in the field of education. Early research helped us to understand that educational aspiration as an expression of the will to achieve and improve in the domain of learning. Aspiration can be understood as the student's will to identify and set goals for the future, while breathing in the present to work toward those prospective goals. The present paper estimates the relationship between Educational Aspiration and Academic achievement of Senior Secondary School students. A sample of 450 Students (240 Boys and 210 Girls) of class XI from different schools of both urban and rural parts of Moradabad district have been taken by using Simple Random Sampling technique. Educational Aspirational Scale developed by V.P. Sharma and Anuradha Gupta (2011) was used to obtain data, while the total marks obtained by the students in the previous class were used as their academic achievement. Mean (M), Standard Deviation (S.D), Pearson Product moment Correlation (r) and t-test were employed to analyze the collected data. Results revealed that Educational aspiration has a positive and contributory effect on the Academic achievement of Students. The students belong to urban background differ significantly in their Academic achievement than that of rural students. Further, the study indicated that gender plays insignificant role in educational attainment of students.
