Abstract

The river Dwarekeshwar comes from the edge of Ranchi mega lineament zone and it is flowing through the interfluve zone Damodar and Kanshaboti which is quite stable mass during pre and post tertiary era. The upper catchment of Dwarekeshwar lies in a transition zone of Gondwana formation and Singhbhum formation and this zone is covered by the Purulia Bankura ductile shear zone. The study concerns with identifying the specific configuration of river bank and pattern of rock strata on the upper catchment of river Dwarakeshwar and with help of these identified geographical attributes the evolution of Dwarekashwar water line (only upper catchment) has been outlined. According to Hotton's principal ‘present is the Key to past’ is taken as a focal thinking point of this study. The water line of Dwarekeshwar proto proterozic origin and the oscillation in river water line is cleared by the unpaired river terrace.
