A Pre-experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on knowledge regarding selected obstetric emergencies and their management among Junior Health Assistant (Female) Students in selected Training Center.
The research design adopted for the study was one group pre test post test pre experimental design. A sample of 30 Junior Health Assistant (Female) Students, who were studying in selected Training Center, Raichur was selected by complete enumeration method. A self administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Data was collected by using a self administered questionnaire.
Among 30 respondents, majority of the students were within the age group of 20–24 years (21 i.e.70%), two-third of the respondents (25 i.e. 83.34%) finished P.U.C. as their basic education, two-third of the students (25 i.e. 83.34%) were Hindus, 17of the participants (56.66%) were not exposed to obstetric emergencies during their clinical postings and 17 of the respondents (56.66%) had got information from health care professionals. In pre test, the mean score of the sample was 15.5 (SD = 3.7) and the post test mean score was 23.7 (SD = 3.65) with paired “t” value of 9.48. This showed that the Structured Teaching Programme was effective in enhancing the knowledge level of the sample regarding selected obstetric emergencies and their management. No significant association was found between post test knowledge scores of the sample with any of their demographic characteristics like Age, Basic educational qualification, Religion, Exposure to obstetric emergencies during clinical postings and Sources of information
In pre test, among 30 Junior Health Assistant (Female) Students majority of the participants (24 i.e. 80.00%) had low knowledge and 6 participants (20.00%) had average knowledge whereas in post test, 18 participants (60.00%) had average knowledge followed by 12 participants (40.00%) with high knowledge. This implies that there is a marked improvement in the knowledge level of the participants after implementation of structured teaching programme.
