Improvement of Muslim Women Education in West Bengal

Abstract

Muslim women that constitute about 12.16% of the state population and 48.24% to the total Muslim population in West Bengal can never be neglected in any sphere of life. But, most of them remain educationally, socially, politically and culturally backward. The education of Muslim women may be improved through the reservation in admission at all levels of education for Muslim women, reservation for Muslim women in all types of Govt./Non-Govt. services, the modernization of Madrasah curriculum based on science and technology, the establishment of more Madrasah Institution, creation of special opportunity for Muslim women under West Bengal Council, the attractive educational stipend/scholarship for Muslim girl student, various arrangement of special economic opportunity and benefit for Muslim women, free hostel for Muslim women, the inclusion of history of eminent educated Muslim women in syllabus to inspire Muslim girls in education, the broadcasting of Muslim women education through TV/Radio/other media, awareness programme related to education. A survey has been carried out to find out the opinions of Muslim women towards this awareness related causes of educational backwardness of Muslim women in West Bengal. The paper also presents the various ways for removing awareness related barriers for improvement of Muslim women education in West Bengal.
