Abstract

A Pre-experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Kindergarten Method of Teaching on knowledge regarding Personal Hygiene among Upper Kindergarten Students.

The research design adopted for the study was one group pre test post test pre experimental design. A sample of 30 Upper Kindergarten Students, who were studying in St. John‟s Nursery School, Raichur was selected by complete enumeration method. A structured interview schedule was used for data collection. Data was collected by using a checklist.

Among 30 respondents, majority of the students were within the age group of 4 years (20 i.e.66.67%), 18 respondents (60%) were males, 18 respondents (60%) were first child, fathers of 14 participants (46.67%) and 12 mothers (40%) had secondary education, majority of the respondents (23 i.e. 76.66%) are from nuclear family and majority of the participants (21 i.e. 70%) have got information from parents. In pre test, the mean score of the sample was 11.4 (SD = 4.09) and the post test mean score was 19.8 (SD = 2.48) with paired“t‟ value of 26.5. This showed that the Kindergarten Method of Teaching was effective in enhancing the knowledge level of the sample regarding Personal Hygiene. No significant association was found between post test knowledge scores of the sample with any of their demographic characteristics like Age, Gender, Order of birth, Educational qualification of parents, Type of family and Sources of information

In pre test, among 30 Upper Kindergarten Students 16 participants (53.33%) had low knowledge and 14 participants (46.67%) had average knowledge whereas in post test, majority of the participants (20 i.e. 66.67%) had high knowledge followed by 10 participants (33.33%) with average knowledge. This implies that there is a marked improvement in the knowledge level of the participants after implementation of Kindergarten Method of Teaching.
