Vowels in the phonology of phayeng dialects

Phayeng also known as Chakpa Phayeng is one of the dialects of Manipur, a Tibeto-Burman language spoken in Imphal West District of Manipur, India. Phayeng inhabit the foot hills of Kangchup Chingkhong to the South-West of the Imphal valley and have their headquarters at Imphal West, Lamshang. According to Grieson, Phayeng belongs to the Kuki-Chin subgroup of the Tibeto-Burman family. Like many other languages/dialects of Northeast India, Phayeng is less described unexplored and undocumented dialects. So the outcome of the research will throw new light on the linguistic structure of the dialects. Phayeng is similar to other dialects of Manipuri like Sekmai, Ando, Khurkhul etc. and known as Lois of Manipur, Manipuri language is primarily in the valley region of Manipur, a state of North-east India, in the adjoining Indian State of Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and in the neighbouring countries like Myanmar and Bangladesh. The Manipuri language is the first Tibeto-Burman language to be included in the 8th schedule on August 20, 1992. Unlike other dialects of Meiteilon or Manipuri language in Manipur, Phayeng dialects are less studied. Thus the present study, "Vowels in the Phonology of Phayeng" will throw new light in the field of linguistic structure of the dialects. That is why the present study will discuss on the vowels in the Phonology and Structure.

The main objective of the present study is to describe the vowels in the phonological structure of the dialect and compare with the standard dialect.
