Performance analysis of selected cement companies in India using dea malmquist productivity approach

The study by using the DEA based Malmquist Productivity Index measures total factor productivity (TFP) change in 22 Indian cement companies over the short period of 2012–13 to 2016–17. The TFP change is further decomposed into Technical Efficiency Change and Technical Change and Technical Efficiency Change is further into Pure Technical Efficiency Change and Scale Efficiency Change. The study finds that over the period of the study there is TFP regress in the cement sector. The productivity regress is slightly higher in larger companies than in small companies classified on the basis of market capitalisation. Further, the study indicates that, except managerial or local efficiency all other components of the TFP show a declining trend.
