Multi lingual education in secondary schools: Perception of students and teachers

Abstract

According to UNESCO to foster sustainable development learners must have access to education in their mother tongue and in other language, and it is through the mastery of the first language, or mother tongue that the basic skills of reading, writing and numeracy are acquired. Multilingual education facilitates access to education while promoting equity for population speaking minority and ingenious language specially girls and women. It emphasizes the quality of teaching and learning with a focus on understanding and creativity. So keeping in this point of view the present study was conducted on 60 students comprising 30 male and 30 female students. Similarly, a total of 40 teachers were selected for the present study out of which 20 male and 20 were females. The study investigates the perception of both the groups towards multilingual education. Findings of the study suggest that there is genders has nothing significance among students. Male and female students have more or less same perception towards multi lingual education. But a significant difference lies between the teachers of private and government schools on perception towards multi lingual education.
