Remittance and its impact on welfare of migrant women workers with special reference to informal sector in Coimbatore City

Remittances play an essential role in ensuring food for many rural poor households and thus constitute an efficient strategy for facing adversities such as low agricultural productivity and the inherent risks and instability of farming activities. Migration can help the women to rise from lower to middle socio-economic class. Many women tend to remit more of their earnings than man and also exercise control of their household income by ensuring the remittances are spent for consumption purposes of their family. With this background the study analyze the remittance and its impact on the welfare of migrant women worker working in informal sector. Multistage sampling technique was adopted in the study for selecting the sample. The use of remittance in productive purpose rather than using consumption and loan repayment may contributes to improve economic status of the female migrants workers families.
