Dairy farming is an economic activity of real important to the rural areas in the world. In India it has been practiced by people from centuries. However, commercial dairy farming in India started only after the successful implementation of white revolution in the form of operation flood. It has helped in the advancement of the economy and development of the country in manifolds. Dairy farming is an important medium of socio-economic progress and is a good source of sustenance for poor rural population. States like Uttarakhand where more than 86 percent of its geographical area is hilly and mountainous; options of livelihood are limited. Commercial dairy farming can help thousands of poor villagers to achieve economic sustainability and sustenance. In this regard, the role of Almora Dugdh Utpadak Sahakari Sangh Limited (ADUSSL) is very crucial in facilitating procurement, processing, and marketing of milk and milk products and helping in growth and development of dairy business in Almora and environs. Simultaneously, Almora Dugdh Utpadak Sahakari Sangh Limited (ADUSSL) is facing severe problems of mismanagement, poor infrastructure and technological deficit and many more. This study is an evaluation of the role; Almora Dugdh Utpadak Sahakari Sangh Limited (ADUSSL) is playing, its problems, and future prospects.
