Correlation of some dimensions of antarctic ozone hole and different solar and geomagnetic parameters

Abstract

The paper presents the variations of Antarctic ozone density, ozone hole area, relative sunspot numbers (RSSN), solar flux, Ap-index and temperature during Antarctic spring for various periods. The Antarctic ozone density, relative sunspot numbers, solar fluxes, temperatures and Apindex though oscillatory had a slow decreasing trend for the different periods with different rates except Antarctic ozone hole area over Antarctica. In spite of gradual oscillatory decrease of relative sunspot numbers, solar fluxes, temperatures and Ap-index, the slow oscillatory gradual decrease of Antarctic ozone density and increase in Antarctic ozone hole area were noticed due to the predominant chemical ozone depletion processes. As a result of which very weak association had been observed between Antarctic ozone density/ozone hole area with solar parameters and geomagnetic parameter. The increase in Antarctic ozone hole area was strongly anti-correlated with Antarctic spring ozone density.
