Parental involvement as a correlate of academic achievement of primary school children in language and mathematics

In majority of Manipur Schools learning achievement of students in English and Mathematics at the elementary level is quite unsatisfactory. There are many factors accountable for low learning achievement of the students in English and Mathematics. Despite the intervention and constructive strategies are being taken to promote quality education to all children at elementary stage, It is seen that one ingredient seems to be lagging behind for the achievement of children. That is parental involvement. the purpose of the study was to determine the effect of parental involvement on student's achievement in Language and Mathematics. The study was conducted in summer 2017 where 58 Class-III students participated from 5 different Government schools of Thoubal town, Manipur. The descriptive survey research design was employed to carry out this study. For testing the hypotheses percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-value, have been calculated. The study has major findings as-parental involvement was not influenced by sex. Parents who are highly involved in their children's school have more academic performance than those students whose parents are less involved in their children's school.
