Impact of globalization on artisans: A survey in Kalaburagi City

Abstract

Artisans and handicrafts people were backbone of Indian economy before globalization. All of these occupations were caste based and each of the artisan was depending on other for their occupations. In this way, though there is slower, but there was constant rural economy development. But after globalization, large scale industries were replaced such occupations and many of such occupations were disappeared due to lack of demand. The families depending on these occupations were unable to get source for their livelihood. Hence, to study the socio-economic conditions of artisans and crafts people after globalization, the present study is made. Totally 160 artisans and handicrafts people in Kalaburagi city of Karnataka were surveyed. The paper described the outcome of the research in detail.
