Abstract

During cold war period, there were mutual misunderstandings between India and the US. After cold war period and collapse of the Soviet Union and India signed GATT agreement, the bilateral relations between India and the US were gained improvement. The then Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao has got initiation to improve the relations with the US and the then, US President Clinton has also extended cooperation. In this way, strategic relations were extended between both the countries. Along the lines, there are cooperation in the fields of trade, economic, defence, nuclear energy, environment, education, etc. But, these relations lack personal touch and in such case, the civil society links played significant role in extending bilateral relations between India and the US. There are many of the international NGOs operating in India and the US. The US is major contributor for the Indian NGOs and International NGOs that are operating in India. Through their activities, the NGOs are helping India in education, health, infrastructure, etc. The paper discussed the contributions of NGOs in bilateral relations between India and the US.
