Abstract

Today human trafficking is considered to be a serious issue not only in India but also in entire world as every country is effected by this criminal activities. India is considered to be situated in the golden triangle as it is a place of origin, transit and destination, trafficking of human beings is growing at an alarming rate vulnerable section of society who easily become victims is the women and children. They are trafficked for various kinds of exploitations which may include forced labour, bonded labour, domestic servitude, organ transplantation, surrogacy etc. The magnitude of trafficking increases as per the demand in the market. In order to combat human trafficking Government of India and the State Governments have enacted various legislations, policies, programmes to prevent, rescue, rehabilitate and reintegrate the survivors of trafficking especially women, girls and children. Government has enacted Suppression of Immoral Trafficking Act, especially to deal with trafficking of women and girls. In spite of all the efforts and initiatives taken by the government the rate at which this crime is growing cannot be effectively tackled due to lack of coordination among the law enforcement authorities, government and the non-governmental organization which has come forward to assist the government in its endeavour. Corruption, political backup of traffickers and undue delay in legal proceeding all have contributed to failure of the legislations, programmmes, and policies.
