Abstract

A field study carried out in sandy clay loam soil at GBPUA&T Research Station, Majhera (Nainital), U.P., during kharif, 1988 and 1989, revealed that pre-emergence application of oxadiazon + metolachlor each@ 0.5 kg/ha was as effective as two hand weedings in reducing the dry matter of weeds and enhancing the seed yield of soybean under low hill and valley situation. The highest mean grain yield 2700 kg/ha was recorded with twice hand weeding closely followed by oxadiazon + metolachlor (2550 kg/ha). These were at par with weed free check. Hand weeding twice at 30 + 45 days after sowing (DAS) and application of oxadiazon + metolachlor increased 226 and 200 per cent grain yield over weedy check, respectively.
