Abstract

Background: The conceivable hypoglycemic and antihyperlipidemic properties of fenugreek seed have been proposed a strong effect against diabetes mellites and its complication. This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of Trigonella Foenum Graecum [Fenugreek] on blood glucose, lipid peroxidation in the serum and liver of Alloxan induced diabetic rat. Methods Twenty-four male Sprague Dawley rats have divided into four group, the treatment rats have been received 2 ml of aqueous Fenugreek solution twice a day for one mouth duration. Results: The result showed the Fenugreek supplementation able to reduce blood glucose level, the rats also shown significant reduction in serum and liver MDA as well as Lipid hydroperoxides [P < 0.05]. The activity of the Antioxidant enzymes [GPX] in liver and serum showed significantly increase in the Fenugreek treatment rats.
