The research paper presents a case study of a criminal case involving use of firearm where the usual test firing resulted in fragmentation of bullets by defects produced inside the barrel of pistol during its manufacturing process whereas the evidence bullets recovered from the body of victim were intact. This fact itself indicates that the evidence bullets have not been discharged from the suspected firearm recovered from accused and also not proper collection/lifting of firearm discharge residue particles [FDR] from the site of injuries results in forming no definite opinion regarding presence of FDR particles around entry wounds and in estimation of range of firing. The paper also extensively discusses how close cooperation of investigating agencies and medical officers can result in successful prosecution of criminal case.
