Abstract

This is really unfortunate that women are not safe in their own homes. They are sometimes tortured to death for the sake of dowry. This has made the legislature frame stringent and rigourous laws. But in spite of these laws the cases of dowry death are on increase. One of the reasons that accused in such cases go unpunished is that such cases take place within the four walls of the house and any independent witness is hardly available. In such circumstances the medical evidence proves really crucial. So the paper focuses on the significance and applicability of medical evidence in cases of dowry death.
