The investor community always looks for higher return either in terms of capital gain or higher and regular dividend. The dividend policy varies from companies to companies and it also differs for different industry groups. The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the trends in the dividend payout ratio of selected companies listed at BSE India. This paper takes the sample companies from BSE listed companies and analyze their dividend policy by analyzing the past trends in dividend payout ratio. The samples are drawn from BSE 500 keeping in mind the representation of different industries to draw meaningful conclusion. The time frame for financial data is March 2002 to March 2010. This paper helps the investors for the purpose of their investment and also helps the companies to focus more on the interest of the investors.
