A comparative study on working capital management of selected fertilizer companies of India

Abstract

Our study is done on five fertilizer companies: Coromandel International, Deepak Fertilisers & Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd., Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizer Company Ltd., Gujarat State Fertilizer & Chemicals Ltd., Tata Chemical. This study was done to know the comparative position of fertilizer companies in working capital management and applying various analyses such as size- wise analysis, ratio analysis & operating cycle analysis by taking data from year 2008 to 2012. The study reveals that GSFC has highest growth of net working capital during holding period followed by Coromandel International and Deepak Fertilisers & Petrochemicals Corp. Ltd. & it is negative with GNFC. Average gross operating cycle is highest with GSFC i.e 142.63 days followed by Tata chemical i.e 89.48 days and GNFC i.e 87.66 days. Net operating cycle of all companies is raised. But, for the GNFC and tata chemical it is good for companies because it's raised by slow rate. It is shows that there is a quite good working capital management in these companies.
