The impactt estimates are based on the detailed primary (household level) data collected from an intensive study of four villages– based on the distance of the water flows, located in most of the industrial belts in Hyderabad. This papers focus on detailed study of 1) water pollution impact on traditional occupation. 2) Water pollution its impact on fisher man economic conditions. 3) The impact on livestock population.4) socio-economic conditions of the respondents. The cost estimates revealed that the impact of industrial pollution on traditional occupations in terms of density of water pollution. The paper argues that the compensation principle might work if the estimates of damage are realistic. Further, mere passing of laws and creating institutional structures are necessary but not sufficient awareness of the people for the environmental problems. Policies should be implemented in their right perspective. Institutions should be strong enough, with more autonomy and powers, to deal with the problems at hand.
