Abstract

Bangladesh has a small but growing capital market in south Asia.In order to provide the overall performance and capital market development in Bangladesh with special reference to the DSE is undertaken in this study.

The study examines the performance of DSE, an emerging stock market in South Asia by which one can know the market performance, market growth and market trend of the Bangladesh capital market from beginning upto 2009.The findings of this study are valuable not only for investors in Bangladesh but also for the international ones who are interested about this.

The study finds that Bangladesh stock market is growing over time. The market however, is still at an early stage of its growth path with small market size relative to GDP and is characterised by low liquidity, high market concentration and high volatility on Dhaka Stock Exchange during the study period from 2000 to 2009.
