Abstract

Small and Medium Industries play a vital role in the growth of the Indian economy contributing around 8 percent of GDP, 45 percent in the overall export from the country and providing the biggest employment after agriculture. Despite this strength SMEs are facing tough challenges in the liberalized and globalised scenario. In the present juncture, SMEs are in need of Knowledge Management just as much as large enterprises and global counterparts. Knowledge Management maintains successful businesses not by collection of products but of distinctive knowledge bases. This intellectual capital is the key that will give the company a competitive advantage with its targeted customers. Knowledge Management seeks to accumulate intellectual capital that will create unique core competencies and lead to superior results. Therefore, this article attempts taking empirical examination of 100 respondents to evaluate the Knowledge Management practices in the SME Sector focusing on improving efficiency of the employees, attitude of managerial levels in implementation of Knowledge Management practices and and to survey the role of organization culture in building Knowledge Management environment over the study.
