The Paper aims at analyzing the demographic characteristics of beneficiaries participating in MGNREGS programme in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha. The study is based on 150 participants and 50 non-participants (Registered) in two villages of Jagatsinghpur block in Odisha. About 60 percent of the job card holder got work after 15 days from filling an application for job which reflect negligence of government machinery. 44.68 percent of the household had been able to complete in between 81–100 person days of work and 30 percent participants worked in between 61–80 person days of work. Percentage of beneficiary is highest in OBC category followed by SC, St & general category. It is observed that only 2 household had been able to complete 100 days of work among the participants in the study area. Out of the 150 beneficiaries, 67.3 percent beneficiaries developed the practice of saving after participating in the programme while 30.7 percent did not save as the wages are paid through bank & post offices. Migration was 43 percent before the introduction of the scheme which reduced to 6.66 percent after utilizing the scheme.
