Abstract

Women make enormous contributions to economies, whether in agriculture, construction, daily wage, as entrepreneurs or employees, or by doing unpaid work at home. When opportunities are provided to empower women economically, this will lead to active participation in leadership and decision making. Investing in women's entrepreneurship will bring about gender equality, poverty alleviation and inclusive economic growth. Women entrepreneurs at various levels, in different cultures and situations not only bring about economic and social benefits in their respective families but more importantly to their community and the society as well. This article attempts to examine the factors that motivate women to take up business and the environmental factors that influence women entrepreneurs. Improving the quality of life and self dependence are the two strongest motivating factors while accessibility to market and contribution to economy are what influenced most women to take up entrepreneurship.
