Abstract

The objective of this paper is to analyse the present production status, growth & performance of fishery in Odisha. The study is based on secondary data collected from fishery statistics of the state. The overall Fisheries potential of the State is 5.63 lakh M.T. The fishermen population of the State is about 12.6 lakhs. Fishery sector occupies an important place in the socio-economic development of the country. There are nearly 1.97 lakh hectares of suitable water spread area available in the form of reservoirs. The share of Odisha in India fish production was 4.66% in 2002–03 & it has grown upto 5.00% in 2004–05. Thereafter from 2003–04, there are a constant rise about 4.95% to 4.90% in 2008–09. There is a drastic change the export of frozen shrimp during 2005–06 to 2009 -10 in Odisha.
