Causes of Employee'sserious Misconduct in An Organization: An Analysis

Abstract

In an organization various forms of employee's serious misconduct can occur. Human behaviour, since the inception of this world is a complex matter for a study from the part of scholars dealing in human psychology. Misconduct is an intentional misbehavior of an individual to get undue advantage, to have a favorable situation in his/her favor. It is the outcome of individual's internal negative attributes such as Greed, Hypocrisy, Arrogance, Anger, Harshness and Ignorance of right or wrong. The gravity of such negative attributes if not controlled, may result in misbehavior. The risk of employee's serious misconduct has globally recognized as one of the most serious threats to company's reputation, image, goodwill, growth and development. The risk of possible employee's serious misconduct such as huge amount of fraud, bribery, theft, embezzlement, go slow, assault, sexual harassment, etc. has become serious concern that need to be addressed with high priority. Every year huge amount of fund hasbeen spent on controlling and monitoring mechanism to prevent the risk of employee's serious misconduct in an organization. The attitude and commitments from employees towards compliance of organization's standards of behaviour is depends on the gravity of the inner attributes of a person. Human behaviour is very complex matter of subject to understand and control. Why an individual behaves in such a way is always been a subject of discussion since the inception of the world (Lawrence & Weber, 2010). In the present study we are analyzing the perception of three levels of management (Top, Middle and Lower) on the causes of employees serious misconduct in an organization. Hope, the present study, will help shareholders, stakeholders, society, research scholars, educationists and other interested parties for future course of action.
