Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the effect of an integrated teaching approach that combines technology, case studies, industrial visits and traditional chalk and talk method. This study was conducted in United States of America for a course on Managerial Accounting. The study introduces a teaching model named ‘VISTA’. This model was tested with the help of experiments carried over two groups namely treatment and control groups. The performance of the treatment group, who were taught using this model VISTA was compared with the performance of a control group who were taught using only traditional methods. A Pre-test and a post-test were conducted on the experimental group while the control group had only a post-test. A Mann-Whitney test was used to ensure homogeneity and also to assess the level of the groups‘ prior knowledge. The proposed model has been tested by the author and her colleague independently and has proved very effective in both the cases. The study concludes that an integrated teaching model works better than depending either too much on technology or using only chalk and talk pedagogy.
