Most of the studies on e-commerce have examined various activities in it in the advanced countries. However, no attempt seems to have been made to examine the impact of information technology on manufacturing sector in a developing country. The present work, therefore, bridges this research gap. A pre-structured questionnaire has been used to collect the information from 90 large manufacturing firms in India. It has been observed that almost all the companies use computer networks for various activities. Most of them utilize these networks for B2B and B2C transactions. There are certain issues such as cost, speed, connectivity, security and investment that need to be addressed to exploit the full potential of e-commerce in India.
