The Global Financial Crisis of 2008 and Its Effect on Manufacturing Sector of Malaysia

Abstract

The following article is about the effect of the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 on the manufacturing sector of Malaysia. For this article two sectors of manufacturing Electronics and Electrical industry and the Automobile industry has been taken as case study. These two sectors have contrasting attributes. The Electronics and Electrical industry was open to foreign investment as it was involved in manufacturing of high end products and the Automobile industry was relatively protected by the government policies. The article will describe how the financial crisis of 2008 affected these two sectors and what were the reasons for this to happen? Also, the article will give a brief description of the development of the electronics and electrical industry and automobile industry of Malaysia. The Electronics and Electrical industry will be dealt in the first half of the article and the second half will be about the Automobile sector of Malaysia.
