Evaluating the Performance of Public Sector Banks “Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank”: An Application of Camel Model with Capital and Earning Parameter

Abstract

The CAMELS rating system is a recognized international rating system that bank supervisory authorities use in order to rate financial institutions according to six factors represented by the acronym "CAMELS." The present study focuses on the evaluation of Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank with CAMELS model. Study is based on the secondary data drawn from the annual reports of respective banks. Data of five years i.e. from 2011–12 to 2015–16 are analyzed by calculated 6 ratios related to CAMELS model. Statistical tool t-test has been used for evaluating the financial performance of these two banks. Data is analyzed manually without using any software. And results show that financial performance of Bank of Baroda is better than Punjab National Bank.
