Since independence, there has been effort on the part of government to improve the access to formal credit system, but the people who have not get the access to the credit delivery system formed themselves into SHGs and many such groups are formed with the active involvement of NGOs which inspired the rural people to pool their financial resources for meeting their consumption and production credit needs the government has recognized the necessity of the empowerment of women by involving them in the economic activity. In the present study researchers attempted to analyze impact of SHG initiatives on socio-economic status of its members using a sample of 80 respondents selected using convenience sampling and the data collected on Likert-Scale was analyzed using tools such as one sample t- test and paired sample t- tests. The finding of the study also shows that there is a positive impact on the socio-economic status of members in the study area.
