The aim of this study was to examine the leadership style(s) adopted by the top and middle level leaders from the Indian hospitals.
Qualitative design was used for this purpose. 13 hospital leaders (5 top and 8 middle level leaders) participated in this study from 7 hospitals. “Face to face interview” technique was used to obtain the views of these leaders on their own leadership styles. Average time for each interview was 45 minutes.
Results showed that “mixed leadership style” is best suitable and beneficial in the Indian hospitals. Hospital leaders also reported that their leadership style evolved over the years and number of factors affected the same.
