The Key Concepts offers a comprehensive collection of the most frequently used and studied concepts in the subject of tourism. Within this paper key terms, concepts, typologies and frameworks are examined in the context of the broader social sciences, blending together theory and practice to explore the scope of the subject matter. Here the focus of the paper is to bring into fore the varied factors which accelerated the movement of people towards far-off places for recreational or other purposes. People visited various places historically for multiple reasons like for religious, nature or scenic or simply a wanderlust grounds to see culturally, traditionally or historically rich places in order to feel the aesthetics of nature. Further it is an attempt to express the rationale behind the emergence of nascent concept like rural tourism which could prove a panacea for many evils related to employment and infrastructure in ridden poor and hard-up areas. It is undeniable fact that tourism offers new possibilities for employment and development, especially in poorer, structurally weak regions, and the countries. With more than 250 million employees, it is considered the world‟s largest employer. Tourism is seen as a pacemaker for globalization, and even as the engine for development in the 21st century.
