Leveraging Socio-economic Diversity and Interactions for Successful Project Delivery

Abstract

As part of managing & successfully delivering projects, project managers undertakes journey which encompasses of managing team members which are from diverse backgrounds, diverse cultures, values, demography etc. Social interactions provides a wonderful opportunity to manage larger diverse teams in such a scenario. This paper explores how project management leadership can leverage on social interactions, social media, and social tools in managing this diversity and can bring best of both worlds together.

If diverse forces can be put to task in synchronous harmonization you are bound to get unique and positive results.

A project manager has to carefully analyze the diversity in the team on various attributes viz. culture, values, demography, cohort (X, Y, Z, millennial, baby boomers etc.). A diversity quotient should be calculated by attributing weighted average to each of the factors and if diversity quotient is high he needs to adopt a different approach to manage this diverse team. This paper will explore different diverse attributes which could be prevalent in a project team and will assign weights to arrive at diversity quotient which will be relevant to the project management and to the industry.

Second aspect is to leverage social interactions in working with such diverse teams. Important consideration will be how to leverage diversity using social interactions for better project management. This paper will explore different project phases, diversity of the project team & which social interaction will be useful in managing project.
