Employee engagement is a concept which has not received much attention by management practitioners. This construct cannot be ignored taking into consideration the fact that employees can act as a source of competitive advantage. Researchers have highlighted the significance of employee engagement in achieving higher productivity, sales, customer satisfaction, and employee retention. Many writers have mentioned engagement as a key driver of individual attitudes, behavior, and performance as well as organizational performance, productivity, retention, financial performance, and even shareholder return. In light of this the authors of this paper investigate the influence of job satisfaction in achieving employee engagement. In other words, are employees who are satisfied with their jobs more likely to be =engaged' to their work and organization as compared to employees who are dissatisfied. This is imperative because of research findings that only 14 percent of all employees worldwide were highly engaged in their job. It is in this context that the researcher intends to examine the previous studies which highlight the significance of employee engagement and job satisfaction and also the role played by job satisfaction in achieving employee engagement.
