Abstract

The evaluation of wheat varieties for resistance showed wide variability among the different taxonomic groups of varieties and within the same group of varieties, with a mean progeny weevil emergence ranging from 7.6 to 28/20 grains. Out of 53 varieties screened, least suceptible ones were KDH, HW 72, WH 147 and UAS 2021 with a mean progeny weevil emergence ranged from 7.6 to 12.0. Most susceptible response was recorded from the varieties - Lok Bold, MACS 3347, DT 133, HW 2046, WTN 64, HD 2329, RNB 78, HW 2006 and PDW 287 (21.3 to 28.0). The grain size was positively correlated and highly significant with mean progeny weevil emergence. Protein content had little role in weevil resistance.
