Abstract

The common fungal diseases of soybean viz., frog eye leaf spot (Cercospora sojina), rust (Phakospora pachyrhizi), powdery mildew (Microsphaera diffusa) and purple seed stain (Cercospora kikuchii) were recorded in moderate to severe form. Of advanced lines and germplasms screened against these diseases under natural conditions, NRC 12, NRC 24; NRC 28, NRC 31, MACS 24 and DS 93–108 B showed resistant reaction to all diseases. A field trial was conducted for the management of two commonly occurring diseases like frog eye leaf spot and rust with different fungicides, mancozeb @ 0.25% and tricyclazole @ 0.1% were highly effective against both diseases. Benomyl @ 0.2%, chlorothalonil @ 0.2%, propicanazole @ 0.1% and azardichtin @ 0.3% were also found effective against the incidence of frog eye leaf spot. A bio-control agent Trichothecium roseam used against the rust disease was also found superior in reducing the lesion density.
