Life Table and Intrinsic Rate of Increase of Sesame Pod Bug, Elasmolomus sordidus Fabricius on Sesamum indicum and Cleome viscosa*
Abstract
The life table and intrinsic rate of increase of Elasmolomus sordidus was studied under laboratory conditions on sesame, Sesamum indicum and an alternate weed host, Cleome viscosa. The net reproductive rate (Ro) of this pest was 40.51 and 23.56 fold increase in the population/generation on sesame and C. viscosa. The mean length of the generation (T) was 32.76 days on sesame and 39.44 days on C viscosa. The intrinsic rate of increase (rm) was 0.10 and 0.08 and a finite rate (A) of 1.116 and 1.084 individuals/female/day which could double in numbers by every 6.3 days on sesame and 8.6 days on C. viscosa, respectively. The weekly multiplication rate of population (WM) was 2.12 times on sesame and 1.76 times on C. viscosa.
