Abstract

Leaf extracts from 20 plant species and six antagonistic microorganisms were separately screened in vitro for their inhibitory effect against Aspergillus niger, predominantly associated with black mould rot of onion during storage. Ipomea carnea, Azadirachta indica. Prospohis chilensis, Bacillus sp. and Trichoderma virens which showed promising results were evaluated against black mould rot under artificial inoculated conditions. Bacillus sp effectively controlled the spoilage with increased efficacy upon protective treatment.
