Abstract

Nine fungal species belonging to eight genera, namely, Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, Curvularia lunata, Fusarium moniliforme, Helminthosporium sativum, Mucor sp., Penicillium notatum and Rhizopus nigricans were observed on seven seed samples of chick pea. All the fungi except Penicillium notatum which developed on agar plate only, developed on agar and blotter paper both. Genotype Plant G 186 was found to harbour maximum number of fungal species (all the nine species) followed by Udai, Radhey, Pragati, Pusa 286, K-850 and Awarodhi. A. alternata, Mucor sp. and Rhizopus nigricans were observed on the seeds of all the genotypes. A. flavus was the next dominant fungal species observed on six genotypes. A. niger and F. moniliforme were observed on five, H. sativum on four, C. lunata on three and P. notatum on two genotypes.
