Reaction of Maize Varieties to Heterodera sorghi

Reactions of 24 cultivars/ hybrids/ composites of maize (Zea mays) against Heterodera sorghi showed that six cultivars/ hybrids/ composites viz. D-851, D-765, Navin, R-17, VL-88 and W-101 were moderately resistant to H. sorghi with reproduction factor (Rf) of 0.96 to 3.80. The cyst number varied from 15-20/plant in these cultivars. Rest eighteen cultivars/ hybrids/ composites gave susceptible response to varying degree. The highest cyst multiplication was found in the most susceptible variety Navjot (310 cysts/plant) with Rf of 34.13.
