Abstract

Twenty-five isoxazoles were prepared by condensation of appropriate α, β-unsaturated compounds with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in presence of catalyst. These compounds were evaluated for nematotoxicity against two species of plant parasitic nematodes viz. J2 of Meloidogyne incognita and pre-adult Rotylenchulus reniformis. These were compared with certain fractions of known nematicidal plant products as well as with carbofuran, a standard nematicide. Bioactivity of five compounds was comparable to nematotoxicity of neem limnoids. 3-Methyl-5-phenylisoxazole (LC55 & 81 ppm) and 3-methyl-5-(3,4-methyelenedioxyphenyl) isoxazole (LC50 97 & 93 ppm) possessed better nematicidal activity than rest of the lot.
