Impact of window insecticide resistance management strategies for cotton pest

Abstract

There was less number of sprays recorded in villages adopted under four window insecticide resistance management (IRM) programme for the management of the insect pests of cotton i.e. 9.61 and 9.56 as compared to 12.86 to 16.20 in non-IRM villages. The trend of using mixture was reduced from 4.04 to 1.98, which represented decrease from 42.0 to 20.7 consumption of mixture in IRM villages. The use of safer insecticide i.e. endosulfan to natural enemies was encouraged in IRM villages, which resulted in 8.6 and 3.8% consumption whereas in non-IRM villages, the consumption was only 5.9 and 1.7% during both years. This also helped in conservation of natural enemies, which on the other hand resulted in decreasing number of sprays and hence, lower cost of cultivation.
