The present investigation were made to study the settling and ovipositional preference of Nilaparvata lugens on resistant and susceptible genotypes. The settling response of nymphs was more apparent at 24 hrs after infestation on all the genotypes tested. The mean number of nymphal preference was the lowest on KAU 1661 (4.3 number/plant) compared to higher in susceptible check TN 1 (7.7). ASD 16 had the lowest number of nymphal emergence of 122.2 number/plant while Basmati 370 recorded the highest % of unhatched eggs (25.4%) and the lowest number of total eggs laid (130.8 number/plant)
