Abstract

Twelve fungal pathogens belonging to 10 genera were isolated from papaya fruits. Tyagi Kumaran market recorded maximum mean % disease incidence. A mean disease index of 7.18 was recorded due to various post-harvest diseases in papaya. Rhizopus stolonifer, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Botryodiplodia theobromae were the major post harvest pathogens isolated. Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Alternaria alternata were also found to be responsible for post-harvest losses. Maximum disease incidence for the major pathogens was observed during the months of October and November. The association of Sclerotium rolfsii with papaya postharvest fruit rot was reported for the first time.
