C-Phenyl-N-phenyl nitrone and its derivatives (la-VIa) were synthesized by condensing benzaldehyde with phenylhydroxylamines (I-VI). The compounds Ia-VIa were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral studies and screened in vitro for their antifungal potential against Alternaria alternata, Fusarium oxysporum, Helminthosporium gramineum, Ustilago tritici and Myrothecium roridum. Two compounds (IIIa, Va) showed promising antifungal potential against M. roridum with ED50 value of 65 and 70 ppm, respectively. The synthesized compounds Ia-VIa were tested for their nematicidal activity against Ditylenchus. myceliophagus and Caenorhabditis elegans. Five of the test compounds induced more than 50% mortality against D. myceliophagus and three against C. elegans at 1000 ppm.
